People Power Party: "Lee Jaemyung Already Seems to Hold Power...Proves One-Man Dictatorship"

"Democratic Party Holds a Coronation, Not a Primary"

Kwon Youngse, Chairman of the People Power Party Emergency Response Committee, commented on April 28 regarding Lee Jaemyung, former leader of the Democratic Party, being officially nominated as the party's presidential candidate. He stated, "With a vote share of 89.77%, this was effectively a coronation for Lee Jaemyung, proving that the party is now a one-man dictatorship under Lee."

At the Emergency Response Committee meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul on this day, Chairman Kwon added, "There is even talk that in 40 days, we will have a Democratic Party government, as if all power has already been seized."

Chairman Kwon also addressed the controversy over 'Growth and Integration,' a private organization led by Lee, saying, "The Public Official Election Act prohibits organized electioneering by unregistered groups." He criticized, "When the issue emerged and allegations of violating the election law were raised, candidate Lee claimed ignorance and distanced himself. As he has always done, Lee is employing his typical tactic of accepting what is advantageous and discarding what is not, then quickly withdrawing when things turn unfavorable."

Floor Leader Kwon Seongdong also remarked, "A vote share close to 90% is something you would see in the Workers' Party of Korea," adding, "This was not a primary, but a ceremony to appoint a supreme leader."

Floor Leader Kwon pointed out, "Since Lee Jaemyung entered the National Assembly, the only things the Democratic Party has done are purges and acts of retaliation. Former Prime Minister Lee Nakyon, who was a rival candidate, left the party before the general election, and Democratic Party lawmakers critical of Lee Jaemyung were purged through unfair nominations."

He continued, "Today, the People Power Party's four-way primary will conclude. A fiercely contested primary is evidence that intra-party democracy is alive and well. Centered around our presidential candidate, we will unite all patriotic and democratic forces opposed to Lee Jaemyung's faction and hold them accountable for driving the Republic of Korea toward division and ruin."
