Science and Technology Innovation Fund to Invest 250 Billion Won in 12 Technology Sectors Including Semiconductors This Year

This year, a Science and Technology Innovation Fund worth 250 billion won will be invested in 12 national strategic technology sectors, including semiconductors, secondary batteries, next-generation communications, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced biotechnology, and next-generation nuclear power.


The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that, through the operations committee held on April 25, it finalized the main investment directions for the Science and Technology Innovation Fund in 2025, with a focus on five sectors: semiconductors and displays, AI, advanced biotechnology, advanced mobility, and quantum technology.

In the technology-leading sector of semiconductors and displays, one fund manager will be selected, and a fund totaling 100 billion won will be created, based on 35 billion won in bank contributions.


In the catch-up and competitive sectors?AI, advanced biotechnology, and advanced mobility?one fund manager will be selected for each sector. For each, a fund totaling between 40 billion and 42 billion won will be established, based on bank contributions of between 20 billion and 21 billion won, respectively.


In the future-challenge sector of quantum technology, three fund managers will be selected, and a fund totaling 33.9 billion won will be created, based on 20.3 billion won in bank contributions.


The selection of delegated fund managers for the creation and operation of sub-funds under the Science and Technology Innovation Fund for 2025 will be announced on May 12. The selection will be completed by the end of June, and the creation and investment of sub-funds are scheduled to begin in the second half of the year.


Lee Sangyun, Director General for Performance Evaluation and Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "We will continue to actively invest and provide support so that our technologies can be recognized in the global market."
