Organized by the Pohang branch of the Korea Population and Health Welfare Association, the event drew explosive interest, with a total of 300 people applying between April 3 and April 15. Out of the 80 participants selected by lottery, the first group of 40 (20 men and 20 women) took part in this round.
The participants had the opportunity to get to know each other through a variety of programs, including ice-breaking games, a flower class experience, rotation talk sessions, and a final appeal and selection time. As a result, six couples were successfully matched.
Participant A said, "At first, it was very awkward, but thanks to the programs that helped ease the atmosphere, I was able to talk to people naturally. I am grateful to have met a good match."
Baek Jeongsuk, head of the Pohang branch of the Korea Population and Health Welfare Association, said, "I am pleased to provide young people with opportunities to form relationships. I feel rewarded when I hear about couples who met at our events and later get married."
Jung Yeonhak, head of the Women and Family Division of Pohang City, said, "I would like to thank the Korea Population and Health Welfare Association for their efforts in organizing the event. I hope that single men and women in Pohang will have more opportunities to meet good matches through these couple matching events."
This event aims to foster a marriage-friendly social atmosphere and actively address the low birth rate issue. It has been held 39 times since 2010. This year, 3,478 people applied, with about 1,880 participating, resulting in 356 couples being matched.
In addition, the second round of the couple matching event is scheduled for June 14, raising expectations among those waiting to participate.
