The Bi-eumsan Mountain Fortress Azalea Festival began as an event to promote Jinrye Mountain Fortress, which is designated as Gyeongsangnam-do Monument No. 128, and its surrounding natural environment. It started in 1994 under the name 'Bi-eumsan Jinrye Mountain Fortress Azalea Festival' and has continued under the name 'Bi-eumsan Mountain Fortress Azalea Festival' since 2008.

Bi-eumsan Mountain Fortress is a representative military defense facility that was built through the collective efforts of local residents to repel enemy invasions. It is a significant historical heritage that embodies the spirit of national defense and patriotism of the local people, as well as the vitality and pride of the Korean people.

The area around Bi-eumsan Mountain Fortress, where the Azalea Festival is held, is renowned for its spectacular scenery every year when large colonies of azaleas are in full bloom. With its blend of natural landscapes and historical sites, it has established itself as a unique local festival.

Hosted by the Changwon Cultural Center, the event featured a variety of traditional performances, including a pre-ceremony performance, ritual ceremonies, celebratory music, and celebratory dance. Participants reflected on the historical significance of Bi-eumsan Mountain Fortress and shared a meaningful time wishing for the continued prosperity of Changwon.

Vice Mayor Cho Myungrae stated, "I hope that the Bi-eumsan Mountain Fortress Azalea Festival will continue to serve as a cultural event that reminds us of the spirit of national defense and patriotism of our ancestors," adding, "I wish that today, all citizens will enjoy a time of unity amid the sea of light pink azaleas."
