The Jeonnam Bio Industry Promotion Institute is undertaking a major organizational restructuring to proactively respond to changes in the future bio industry and to enhance management efficiency.

The institute will transition from its current structure of six centers and two offices to a new system comprising four divisions and fifteen offices and centers. The newly established divisions include the Biopharmaceutical Division, Green Bio Division, Marine Bio Division, and Management Planning Division.

Founded in 2002, the Jeonnam Bio Industry Promotion Institute has achieved significant milestones under the leadership of Director Yoon Hoyul over the past two years. These include being designated as a World Health Organization (WHO) Global Bio Campus in 2023, being selected as a National Advanced Strategic Industry Bio-Specialized Complex in 2024, being chosen as the Natural Product Full-Cycle Standardization Hub in 2025, and attracting the K-Bio Health Support Center in 2025. Last year, the institute also greatly elevated its stature by winning three top awards in the Jeonnam Province public institution evaluation.

This restructuring into a divisional system aims to strengthen the institute's capacity to undertake large-scale projects that can drive the national and Jeonnam regional bio industries. Previously, planning was carried out independently by each center, which led to a focus on relatively small-scale projects. The new structure is expected to resolve this issue.

With the expansion of the organization, there are also high expectations among staff for resolving personnel bottlenecks through large-scale internal promotions. The changes are anticipated to invigorate the organization and strengthen both interdepartmental cooperation and the system of responsible management.

This restructuring was completed following an employee briefing session and approval by the board of directors, which consists of 17 members from Jeonnam Province, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and related cities and counties. It is being evaluated as a turning point for the advancement of Jeonnam's biohealthcare industry.

Director Yoon Hoyul stated, "With this organizational restructuring, we expect the Jeonnam Bio Industry Promotion Institute to operate in a more systematic and efficient manner," and added, "We will establish ourselves as a leading bio-specialized institution with global competitiveness in the fields of biopharmaceuticals, green bio, and marine bio."

He continued, "We will significantly strengthen our research and development system to greatly enhance the capabilities of the existing six centers, and further expand support for technology startups to lead the development of the bio industry. By expanding the bio industry across all 22 cities and counties in Jeonnam, the institute will serve as a solid foundation for Jeonnam to become a true hub of the bioeconomy."
