Gwangju City has formed its first Traffic Impact Assessment Review Committee, appointing new members following the enactment of the nation's first-ever 'Guidelines for Operating the Traffic Impact Assessment Committee' last month.
On the 25th, Gwangju City held an appointment ceremony and workshop for new members of the 9th Traffic Impact Assessment Review Committee in the Happiness Conference Room on the first floor of City Hall, according to an announcement made on the 26th.
During the workshop, appointment certificates were presented to 16 newly selected review committee members, who were chosen through an open recruitment process. The event included a reading of the integrity pledge, an explanation of the operating guidelines, and a Q&A and discussion session.
The workshop provided an overview of the main points of the newly established 'Guidelines for the Composition and Operation of the Traffic Impact Assessment Committee,' which Gwangju City enacted last month. The roles of the committee, including conducting more systematic and fair traffic impact assessments, were also shared.
Kim Youngsun, Director General of the Integrated Airport and Transportation Bureau and chair of the committee, stated, "Since the introduction of the traffic impact assessment system in 1998, the committee has made significant contributions over the past 27 years by minimizing the traffic impact of various development projects and enhancing citizen convenience and safety. Moving forward, we will continue to operate the traffic impact assessment system in line with citizens' expectations together with the newly formed 9th committee."
Meanwhile, the city announced that it will officially implement the guidelines for operating the Traffic Impact Assessment Committee?the first such guidelines among metropolitan and special cities?in the second half of this year. The guidelines specify the purpose of enactment, committee functions, committee composition and terms, duties of the chair and members, and procedures for dismissal, in order to ensure fair and stable operation of the committee.
