Five firefighters, including Fire Lieutenants Han Kyu Song, Sun Hong Park, Young Gil Han, and Fire Sergeants Jung Kyun Oh and Hyo Jung Im, were selected as the "Outstanding Gwangju Firefighters of April."

On April 25, Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters held the "Outstanding Firefighters of April Award Ceremony" in the headquarters meeting room. The awardees were Han Kyu Song from the 119 Special Response Unit, Sun Hong Park and Young Gil Han from the Northern Fire Station, Jung Kyun Oh from the Southern Fire Station, and Hyo Jung Im from the Gwangsan Fire Station. These firefighters were recognized as exemplary members of the fire service for their outstanding sense of duty and responsibility, as demonstrated in various areas such as rescue, emergency medical services, and public safety activities.

Fire Lieutenant Han Kyu Song saved a life last month when, while off duty, he noticed an elderly man collapse during a meal. Suspecting an airway obstruction, he immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver, successfully rescuing the man in a critical moment.

Other firefighters were also recognized for their exceptional performance in specific fields. In the rescue dispatch category, Sun Hong Park was selected; in the emergency medical services category, Young Gil Han and Hyo Jung Im were chosen; and in the public safety category, Jung Kyun Oh was recognized.

An analysis of their firefighting activities showed that these firefighters had the highest number of field dispatches in their respective fields. Their proactive efforts were acknowledged as having played a leading role in protecting the lives and property of citizens. The outstanding firefighters received commendations from the Mayor of Gwangju, along with prize money and badges.

Ko Youngguk, head of the Gwangju Fire Safety Headquarters, stated, "Firefighters who dedicate themselves to protecting the lives and safety of citizens are the true heroes of our community. We will continue to actively discover and encourage firefighters who silently and faithfully fulfill their duties."
