People Power Party Finalizes 770,000 Electoral College Members... Majority Winner to Receive Priority in Party Affairs

Announcement of Two Candidates Advancing to the Third Primary
to Be Made at 2 p.m. on April 29

The People Power Party's Election Commission announced on April 25 that the party's electoral college, which holds voting rights in the June 3 presidential candidate selection primary, has been finalized at approximately 770,000 members.


Ho Junseok, spokesperson for the People Power Party's Election Commission, met with reporters after the commission's meeting at the National Assembly on the same day. He stated regarding the size of the electoral college, "It has been finalized at 765,773 members," adding, "This includes all full party members and general party members who have paid party dues at least once in the past year."

Of the four candidates?Kim Moonsu, Ahn Cheolsoo, Han Donghoon, and Hong Joonpyo (listed in alphabetical order)?the two who will advance to the third primary will be announced at 2 p.m. on April 29. The second primary vote will be conducted with 50% from a general public opinion poll and 50% from the electoral college vote.


Hwang Woo-yeo, chairperson of the People Power Party's Election Commission, is scheduled to receive the results from five polling agencies and mobile voting/ARS companies, and will then announce the combined results.


During the aggregation process, all four candidates will each deliver messages and remarks aimed at unity. Spokesperson Ho explained, "Although all the candidates are competitors, there will be a moment for everyone to express their commitment to unity and victory."


If a candidate receives a majority of votes in the second primary, that candidate will immediately attain the same status as the People Power Party's presidential candidate and will also be granted priority in party affairs.


The national convention to nominate the People Power Party's presidential candidate will be held at 2 p.m. on May 3 at KINTEX in Ilsan, Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.


When asked by a reporter about the previous day's discord among the candidates regarding debate rules, spokesperson Ho replied, "We explained the debate format to each camp and proceeded with the agreed-upon method. Although the broadcaster suggested a change midway, we did not agree, so the debate was conducted as originally planned."


On the same day, Yoon Heeseok, chief spokesperson for Han Donghoon, a preliminary presidential candidate of the People Power Party, issued a statement criticizing the decision, saying, "The party's election commission changed its decision once again in the morning, opting for a debate where a candidate with initiative asks unilateral questions, instead of the common-sense debate format prepared by the broadcaster."
