Buan County to Supply Insecticides to Livestock Farms for Lumpy Skin Disease Prevention

Free Supply Until May 16

Buan County in North Jeolla Province will supply insecticides to livestock farms to prevent lumpy skin disease from April 28 to May 16.

According to the county on April 25, lumpy skin disease is a Category 1 legally designated livestock infectious disease that primarily affects cattle. Since its first domestic outbreak in 2023, there were 107 cases in 2023 and 24 cases in 2024.

Although a vaccine exists and annual vaccinations are conducted, the disease is transmitted by blood-sucking insects such as flies and mosquitoes. Therefore, insecticide control is necessary from summer to early autumn. In response, the county plans to supply insecticides to livestock farms to encourage voluntary disease prevention among farmers.

The insecticide for lumpy skin disease prevention being supplied this time amounts to 6,027 bottles (100ml per bottle), which is considered a sufficient quantity. Another round of supply is planned for July, when blood-sucking insects become more prevalent. Hanwoo, beef cattle, and dairy cattle farmers in Buan County can receive the insecticide free of charge by visiting their local township or town office where their farm is located, starting April 28.

A county official stated, "Lumpy skin disease is a livestock infectious disease that can be sufficiently prevented through vaccination and control of blood-sucking insects," and added, "We hope everyone will make efforts to ensure thorough disease prevention with the insecticide being supplied this time."
