Gyeonggi Province has established a 24-hour pediatric emergency care system in its northern region.
On April 25, Gyeonggi Province announced that it had designated the National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital as the "Pediatric Emergency Responsible Medical Institution" for northern Gyeonggi at the beginning of this month. The hospital will provide 24-hour care for pediatric emergency patients and serve as the final treatment center for severe pediatric emergency cases, and has officially begun operations.
Until now, there was no pediatric emergency medical center designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare in northern Gyeonggi, which forced local pediatric patients to endure long-distance travel for treatment. In response, Gyeonggi Province has worked to establish a pediatric emergency care infrastructure in the northern region through cooperation with major hospitals and public health centers.
Gyeonggi Province will provide 2.8 billion KRW in support for the operation of the Pediatric Emergency Responsible Medical Institution. In addition, the province plans to prevent the departure of specialists and further strengthen the collaborative care system by supporting the salaries of dedicated physicians and providing backup medical support.
Yoo Youngcheol, Director of Health and Wellness at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "In an era of low birth rates, the health of children and adolescents is a crucial factor that will determine the nation's future," and added, "Gyeonggi Province will continue to protect the health of growing children by expanding and operating Pediatric Emergency Responsible Medical Institutions."
Previously, Gyeonggi Province designated Bundang CHA Hospital and Ajou University Hospital as Pediatric Emergency Responsible Medical Institutions for southern Gyeonggi.
