Songpa District Continues Intensive University Admission Counseling for Middle and High School Students This Year

"After receiving regular counseling, my child was accepted to the university they wanted. Thank you for the sincere guidance." "We lacked information because my child was in the lower-middle ranks, but the counselor's extensive experience provided realistic advice." "It was as helpful as paid consulting. However, it was difficult to make a reservation. I hope the number of sessions increases."

These are testimonials from participants of the '1:1 University Admission Consulting' program, which Songpa District (District Mayor Seo Kangseok) implemented last year to strengthen the competitiveness of local youth in university admissions. Thanks to the program's high popularity, the district will continue the initiative this year.

'1:1 University Admission Consulting' is a service in which current teachers provide in-person, customized admission counseling to local middle and high school students and their parents. Alongside the 'regular operation' counseling, which is available year-round for all middle and high school students, there is also a 'focused operation' counseling exclusively for third-year high school students during the early and regular admission periods in August and December. Last year, a total of 950 people received counseling through this program.

The effectiveness of the program is evident in the data. In March, immediately after the announcement of the 2025 university admission results, the district conducted a satisfaction survey of 400 participants. A majority, 61%, responded that "the counseling content matched the actual admission results," meaning that six out of ten students succeeded in gaining admission to their target universities as decided through the counseling. Additionally, 76% said "the counseling was practically helpful in choosing universities and majors," further demonstrating the program's high effectiveness.

A district official stated, "Most of the feedback has been positive, with many saying they were accepted to their desired university thanks to the counseling." The official added, "Because the counseling is based on abundant school data compared to paid consulting, it also helps reduce dependence on private education."

The program has gained widespread popularity, with all available spots filling up as soon as registration opens, as participants can receive professional admission counseling without any financial burden. This year, the district will continue the consulting program, reflecting participant feedback to ensure more students benefit from it.

First, the program, which was previously limited to third-year middle and high school students, has been expanded to include all grades from first-year middle school to third-year high school. Reflecting parents' requests, the number of counseling sessions has increased by 1.7 times compared to last year, reaching 800 sessions, thereby easing the burden of the so-called "reservation rush."

To participate, applicants can register on a first-come, first-served basis at 10 a.m. on the second Wednesday of the month prior to the counseling session via the Songpa Run website. For more details, contact the Songpa District Office's Department of Educational Cooperation. In-person counseling is provided at the Songpa Run Education Center. Third-year high school students can participate twice a year, while all other students may participate once per year.

Seo Kangseok, Mayor of Songpa District, stated, "This program was designed so that any student with a passion for higher education can respond to the rapidly changing admissions environment." He added, "We will provide unwavering support to help young people become leading members of future society through successful career planning."
