Hong Joonpyo: "Unifying Conservatives Through a One-Shot Primary With Acting President Han"

"I Will Secure Victory in a One-on-One Race Against Lee Jaemyung"
Hong Joonpyo Vows to Unify Conservatives and Win the Presidential Election

Hong Joonpyo, former Daegu mayor and a presidential primary candidate for the People Power Party, stated on April 24, "Even if I become the final candidate, I will unify the conservative candidates by holding a 'one-shot primary' with Prime Minister Han Ducksoo, who is acting as President."

On his Facebook page that day, Hong declared, "Without further fragmentation among conservative candidates, I will ensure a one-on-one presidential race against Lee Jaemyung, the Democratic Party's presidential primary candidate, and secure victory."

Hong reaffirmed his determination by saying, "This will be my last presidential election," and added, "I will devote all my energy to winning the presidency."

Earlier that morning, Hong held an emergency press conference in Yeouido, Seoul, where he said, "I intend to become a melting pot that dissolves conflicts for national unity and embraces all political forces," adding, "I will move forward together with all factions within the party, regardless of whether they supported or opposed the impeachment."

Hong also stated, "As soon as I become the candidate, I will begin negotiations for a big tent with Representative Lee Junseok," and added, "I will include the non-mainstream faction as well." He expressed his intention to include even the Lee Jaemyung faction if he wins the presidency.

Hong emphasized, "The primary is currently being viewed through the lens of pro- and anti-impeachment factions, but if we continue this way, even if we win, it will be difficult to create a new nation," and added, "We should embrace everyone and make this election one that transforms the framework of the country."
