"Sincere Condolences and Sympathy"
On April 24, Acting President and Prime Minister Han Ducksoo sent a message of condolence to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the terrorist attack that occurred on April 22 (local time) in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, Han stated, "I pray for the souls of those who lost their lives in this incident, and on behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Korea, I extend my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families and the people of India, who must be in deep shock and grief."
The indiscriminate shooting attack near the resort area of Pahalgam in Indian-administered Kashmir, a region disputed by India and Pakistan, resulted in at least 26 deaths and 17 injuries.
Han said, "I was deeply shocked and saddened to hear the news that so many innocent lives were lost due to this act of terrorism," and emphasized, "Terrorism is an anti-civilizational and anti-humanitarian crime that can never be justified under any circumstances and must be eradicated."
He continued, "I pay tribute to the Prime Minister's determination and efforts to restore justice and maintain peace and stability in the face of this terrorist attack, and our government will stand firmly in solidarity with the Indian government and people in these efforts."
Han concluded by saying, "I sincerely hope that the people of India will be able to overcome the sorrow caused by this terrorist attack as soon as possible."
