Pohang Pavilion Showcased at Korea's Largest ICT Exhibition
Future Clean Energy Forum Highlights Innovation Led by Artificial Sun
From April 24 to 26, Pohang City is participating in the '2025 World IT Show (WIS 2025)' held at COEX in Seoul, operating the 'Pohang Pavilion' and hosting the Future Clean Energy Forum to widely promote Pohang's vision as a hub for the future energy industry.

This event has been organized to secure new growth engines for Pohang to take the lead in the global energy market, based on its world-class research infrastructure and public-private collaboration system.
On April 24, Lee Gangdeok, Mayor of Pohang, visited the Pohang Special Promotion Pavilion with Yoo Sangim, Minister of Science and ICT, and key figures from co-organizing companies, where he introduced Pohang's future energy strategy and requested policy support for related projects that the city is prioritizing.
Subsequently, at the Future Clean Energy Forum hosted by Pohang City on the main stage at COEX, nuclear fusion experts gathered to discuss the direction of future energy transition and industrialization strategies under the theme 'Future Energy Innovation Led by Artificial Sun.'
During the keynote speeches, Oh Youngkuk, President of the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy, gave a presentation on 'Fusion Energy and the Eco-friendly Energy Paradigm,' while Choi Doohwan, CEO of Enable Fusion, spoke on 'The Industrial Value of Fusion and the Advancement of Manufacturing.'
In the second session, Lee Jaeyoung, Professor at Handong Global University, presented 'Strategies for Fostering the Clean Energy Industry for a Sustainable Future.' This was followed by an expert panel discussion featuring CEO Choi Doohwan, Lee Hyungon, Senior Advisor at the Korea Institute of Fusion Energy, and Cho Hangjin, Professor at POSTECH.
The panel discussed the necessity of fusion energy and the validity of attracting related facilities to Pohang, reaffirming Pohang's status as the optimal location for the future clean energy industry.
Based on the 'Fusion Energy Realization Acceleration Strategy' announced by the government last year, Pohang City is strengthening its public-private cooperation network and accelerating the development of fusion technology and infrastructure.
In November last year, the city held the Future Clean Energy Forum at the POSCO International Center, and in February this year, it signed a business agreement with local universities, R&D institutions, and companies to promote 'the development and industrialization of commercialization technologies for future clean energy.'
Pohang boasts a favorable environment for the demonstration and commercialization of fusion technology, thanks to its core research personnel at POSTECH and Handong Global University, as well as large-scale science infrastructure such as the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory.
Building on these strengths, the city plans to establish an industrial ecosystem with competitiveness in the future energy market by rapidly applying research outcomes to the industrial field and commercializing new technologies.
Mayor Lee Gangdeok stated, "At this nation's largest information and communication technology exhibition, we were able to effectively showcase Pohang's capabilities in the clean energy industry," and added, "We will leverage Pohang's research infrastructure and industrial base to become a leading city in the global future clean energy market."

Pohang City plans to use its participation in this World IT Show as an opportunity to strategically foster the future clean energy industry and further accelerate the implementation of related policies and support projects.
