The construction of the "Railway IT Operations Center," which will serve as the integrated management and operations hub for all railway-related data in South Korea, has officially begun in Chungnam Province.
According to the province, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Railway IT Operations Center, hosted by Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL), was held on the afternoon of the 24th at the new construction site in Jangjaeri, Baebang-eup, Asan City, near KTX Cheonan Asan Station. The event was attended by approximately 200 people, including Chungnam Governor Kim Taeheum, Asan Mayor Oh Sehyun, KORAIL President Han Moonhee, officials, and local residents.
The KORAIL Railway IT Operations Center will be built near Cheonan Asan Station, with a total floor area of 7,107 square meters, at a project cost of 59 billion won. The facility will consist of one basement floor and four above-ground floors, with completion targeted for February 2027.
The KORAIL Railway IT Operations Center, which Chungnam Province successfully attracted, is expected to become the central hub for the integrated management of the nation’s railway information systems and a key infrastructure leading the digital transformation of railway operations. By decentralizing, duplicating, and advancing the currently operating Seoul Data Center, the new center aims to enhance the stability and continuity of railway services and significantly improve user convenience for railway service customers.
Once completed, the Railway IT Operations Center will house around 200 KORAIL employees and operate 85 information systems across eight fields, including railway ticket reservation and issuance, year-round reservation and multi-channel ticketing services, train operations, crew management, logistics transportation, nationwide interoperable Rail Plus Card settlement, metropolitan subway revenue settlement, and analysis and support for metropolitan business policies.
Governor Kim Taeheum stated, "Chungnam is a region that serves as a bridge connecting the Seoul metropolitan area and the southern provinces, making it the most suitable location to oversee the nation's railway transportation. The new Railway IT Operations Center, equipped with advanced facilities, will enable not only Chungnam residents but also people across the country to use the railway system more conveniently."
