"Only the Right to Indict Should Remain...
I Cannot Bear to Watch This Anymore"
Kim Kyungsoo, former South Gyeongsang Province Governor and a presidential contender for the Democratic Party, criticized the indictment of former President Moon Jaein on bribery charges, stating, "The only answer is to completely dismantle the political prosecution."
On April 24, Kim posted on his Facebook page, "I cannot bear to watch the actions of the political prosecution," adding, "The only answer is to leave only the right to indict and to completely dismantle both the investigative prosecution and the political prosecution."
Earlier that morning, prosecutors indicted former President Moon Jaein on bribery charges in connection with allegations of preferential hiring involving his former son-in-law.
Park Kyungmi, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, also stated, "The prosecution has crossed the final line that should never be crossed," and criticized, "To claim that the salary paid to the son-in-law was a bribe to the president?after dragging this out for four years, is this the best logic they could come up with?"
She said, "This forced indictment, which clearly demonstrates the harms of the prosecution's monopoly over the right to indict, will go down in history," and added, "This is nothing more and nothing less than a political indictment intended to disgrace a former president and tarnish the Democratic Party."
She continued, "I sternly warn that the prosecution's desperate actions will only hasten prosecution reform," and reaffirmed, "The Democratic Party once again pledges to reform the prosecution, which is desperately trying to protect its vested interests."
Kang Yujeong, spokesperson for Lee Jaemyung's former Democratic Party campaign, stated, "This appears to be a clear case of political oppression and retaliation by the prosecution against the previous administration," and urged, "The prosecution should immediately withdraw this unjust indictment."
