Prospects for Expanding Solution Adoption
On April 24, SK Securities highlighted the potential for Cemes to expand its solution deliveries as a key investment point, citing Coupang's investments in logistics infrastructure.
Park Chansol, a researcher at SK Securities, explained, "As Coupang is expected to increase the installation of robots to respond to rising logistics volumes, there is an expectation for additional solution deliveries within this year." Cemes previously announced in February that it had supplied solutions worth 640 million won to Coupang.
Cemes is a provider of artificial intelligence (AI) vision and robot control solutions. The company integrates software (SW) based on 3D vision inspection technology into robot hardware (HW), building and delivering these systems to its clients. Cemes solutions are applied in industries such as automotive (Hyundai Kia, Denso, Bosch, Continental), electronics (SKT, LG Electronics, LG Innotek), logistics (Coupang, CJ Logistics, Hyundai Movex, GS Retail), and apparel and footwear (Nike, Taekwang, Changshin). Most of these solutions are used for product quality inspection and unstructured precision robot position guidance.
Previously, Coupang invested 3.3 billion won in Cemes last year, securing a stake of just over 1%. Regarding this, Park noted, "Since Coupang has already presented its nationwide logistics infrastructure investment blueprint, there is ample possibility that investments will expand beyond the testbed level this year." He added, "It is estimated that Cemes solutions have been applied to three of Coupang's automated fulfillment centers (CFCs), and there is a high likelihood that the number of logistics centers adopting these solutions will increase."
