Previously, the city announced its plan to cultivate leaders who will spearhead the transition to ecological civilization through the experimental course, which will be held from June to December this year. The program will accept 15 students, targeting domestic and international young people aged 19 or older who are interested in and committed to the transition and practice of ecological civilization.
The selected students will participate in a curriculum consisting of pilgrimages, workshops, lectures, and projects, and will experience community life where they learn how humans and non-human beings can coexist.
To ensure that students can fully focus on their studies, the city will waive tuition fees and provide benefits such as a set amount of research support funding. Details on the curriculum and additional information can be found on the Suncheon City Hall website.
A city official stated, "Suncheon Eco College is an alternative higher education platform that aims to build an ecological civilization city based on the coexistence of humans and non-human beings and rooted in the local community. It is a new initiative focused on life and practice. We plan to thoroughly incorporate the experiences from this experimental course into next year's program, and we will offer new learning opportunities to the students who will become the first agents of ecological civilization transition."
