Korean Red Cross Busan Chapter Launches "Gijeok" Dementia Prevention Partnership for Elderly Households

The Korean Red Cross Busan Chapter (President Seo Jeongui) announced on April 24 that, starting in April, it has been conducting the "Colors of Memory Drawn Together with the Red Cross" dementia prevention partnership activity, involving 500 elderly households and Red Cross volunteers.

This activity is part of the Korean Red Cross dementia safety program "Gijeok" (a combination of the Korean words for "memory" and "Red Cross"), which aims to address the issue of dementia among the elderly in a super-aged society. The program involves 500 elderly households in Busan who are partnered with the Red Cross and are in need of dementia prevention, along with Red Cross volunteers, coloring together in coloring books as a preventive activity.

A volunteer from the Red Cross Volunteer Association's Seo-gu Council, who participated in the activity, said, "Dementia is a disease that can affect anyone, so prevention is important. I felt a sense of fulfillment being able to help through this excellent program provided by the Red Cross."

To further promote the "Gijeok" dementia safety program, the Korean Red Cross Busan Chapter plans to train volunteer instructors for elderly health exercise programs aimed at dementia prevention. Starting in May, these volunteers will visit senior centers across Busan to teach elderly health exercises.
