Jeongeup City Inspects Use of Aquatic Veterinary Medicines at Fish Farms

Spreading a Culture of Proper Medicine Use

On April 24, Jeongeup City in North Jeolla Province announced that it had conducted guidance and inspections on the use of aquatic veterinary medicines at local fish farms.

This inspection, carried out jointly with the Aquatic Research Division of the Jeonbuk Institute of Fisheries Technology, was organized with the aim of enhancing seafood safety and preventing the inappropriate use of veterinary medicines in advance, thereby creating a food environment that consumers can trust.

This inspection focused on 20 fish farms that were not inspected last year. The city checked the overall usage status of aquatic veterinary medicines, including whether their use was authorized, whether expiration dates were observed, and their storage conditions. In particular, the city closely examined whether banned or unapproved medicines and hazardous chemicals were being used.

In addition to enforcement activities on site, the city also provided education to aquaculture operators on the "10 Key Rules for Using Aquatic Veterinary Medicines," in order to promote a culture of proper medicine use and encourage voluntary compliance.

A city official stated, "We will continue to systematically provide guidance and conduct inspections to ensure the safety of seafood," and added, "We will do our utmost to establish a culture of safe use of aquatic veterinary medicines."

Meanwhile, the use of unapproved aquatic veterinary medicines may result in imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to 30 million won. Violations of usage standards may be subject to an administrative fine of up to 1 million won.
