This walking event is held every April as an initiative to overcome dementia by practicing "walking," which is known to help prevent dementia. This year, the event took place on the Hyoseok Literature 100-ri Trail in Daehwa-myeon, covering a round-trip distance of 2.4 kilometers.

The event was organized to break down prejudices against dementia and to foster a dementia-friendly environment in the local community through the active participation of dementia patients and their caregivers, Dementia Safe Villages, dementia partners, senior citizens' organizations, and other local residents.

As the population of seniors aged 65 and older in Pyeongchang County continues to increase each year, the number of dementia patients is also expected to rise. In response, the Pyeongchang County Public Health Center is working in cooperation with local health institutions and related organizations, such as police substations and senior welfare centers, to identify suspected cases of cognitive decline early and provide timely treatment.

The Pyeongchang Dementia Relief Center currently has over 1,100 registered dementia patients and continues to provide ongoing management through support for treatment costs and cognitive enhancement programs.

Kim Jinok, head of Pyeongchang County's Medical Support Division, stated, "Practicing walking activities as part of a healthy lifestyle can help prevent dementia," and urged, "If you have any concerns about dementia, please make active use of the Pyeongchang Dementia Relief Center."
