The process for applying for fire drills at public institutions, such as schools in Gyeonggi Province, will be improved.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education announced on April 24 that it had reached an agreement with the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters to improve the application process for joint fire drills at public institutions, including schools.
Under the "Act on Fire Prevention and Safety Management" (Articles 37 and 39), public institutions such as schools are required to conduct a joint fire drill with the local fire station once a year. However, when schools applied for fire drills while taking their academic schedules into account, they faced difficulties in selecting and coordinating drill dates.
To address these issues, the provincial office of education proposed to the fire and disaster headquarters that the system be improved so that joint fire drills can be applied for through the websites of 36 local fire stations in the province.
Reflecting the office of education's suggestion, the fire and disaster headquarters completed the addition of a joint fire drill application menu on its website on April 22, and decided to actively inform each fire station about the application procedures.
The provincial office of education expects that by using this application system, schools will be able to more easily handle inquiries, submissions, and schedule adjustments for joint fire drills, thereby reducing administrative workload.
Lee Kanguk, Director of Planning and Coordination at the provincial office of education, stated, "This system improvement is the result of the fire and disaster headquarters actively adopting our proposal, and it will serve as a model case for improving administrative processes at public institutions such as schools." He added, "We will continue to make every effort to improve school administration through ongoing communication and cooperation with related organizations."
