Gwanak District to Provide Up to 20 Million Won in Business Development Funds for Social Economy Enterprises

Gwanak District (headed by Mayor Park Junhee) has launched a program to support outstanding social economy enterprises with business development funds, aiming to build a sustainable social economy ecosystem.

Social enterprises are organizations that pursue a 'social purpose,' such as providing jobs for vulnerable groups, based on solidarity and cooperation among members, and contribute to the local community.

This year, the district plans to provide a total of 80 million won in business development funds to outstanding social economy enterprises, with the goal of alleviating their management difficulties and strengthening their capacity for self-reliance.

Eligible recipients include (preliminary) social enterprises, social cooperatives, village enterprises, self-sufficiency enterprises, and facilities producing goods made by people with severe disabilities, all located in Gwanak District. The funds can be used for business development expenses such as brand development, prototype production, and improving product performance and quality.

The district will review business plans, enterprise growth potential, and social value to determine whether to provide support and the amount to be granted. Selected enterprises can receive up to 20 million won in funding, and participating enterprises must cover at least 10% of the total project cost themselves.

Social economy enterprises wishing to apply should prepare the required documents and submit them to the Job and Venture Division of Gwanak District Office by 5:00 p.m. on May 1.

For more details on the application documents and the business development fund support for social economy enterprises, visit the Gwanak District Office website (News & Announcements → Notices → Public Notices) or contact the Job and Venture Division of Gwanak District Office.

Last year, the district was the only autonomous district in Seoul to receive the Grand Prize for 'Outstanding Local Government in Social Enterprise Promotion' from the Ministry of Employment and Labor, recognizing its efforts to foster the social economy ecosystem.

This year, the district will host the 'Social Economy Public Procurement Expo,' operating promotional booths for about 20 companies to encourage preferential public procurement by public institutions. In addition, the district plans to operate 'Kkum Market,' Gwanak's representative social economy marketplace, 10 times to help social economy enterprises secure practical sales channels.

Mayor Park Junhee stated, "Beyond pursuing profit, the social economy is an essential economic sector for solving our society's problems, as it provides jobs for marginalized groups and revitalizes the local economy. We will continue to implement various support programs to ensure that social economy enterprises can remain active."
