Mapo District (Mayor Park Gangsu) will open the "Barefoot Red Clay Trail," which allows residents to enjoy nature and improve their health in the city, on April 28 and April 29 at Tojeong Park and Wau Neighborhood Park, respectively.
Since 2024, Mapo District has been actively promoting the "Barefoot Red Clay Trail Project." To date, red clay trails have been established at four locations: Dohwa-dong Rest Area (353-8 Dohwa-dong), Tojeong Interchange, Seoyunbok Rest Area (2-1 Daehyeong-dong), and Bueongyi Neighborhood Park (879 Sangam-dong).
This year, the project to create "Barefoot Red Clay Trails" will continue throughout Mapo District.
On April 28, an opening ceremony will be held for the 140-meter-long Barefoot Red Clay Trail at Tojeong Park (around 555-1 Dohwa-dong). Created among the cluster of city buildings, this space is expected to become a new healing spot where people can find relaxation in the city.
On April 29, an opening ceremony will be held for the 100-meter-long Barefoot Red Clay Trail at Wau Neighborhood Park (around 3-195 Changjeon-dong). Located at the foot of Wausan Mountain, this trail is designed so that visitors who come to enjoy nature can also experience walking barefoot.
To provide residents with a variety of barefoot experiences, an unusual facility called the "Ochre Ball Trail" was installed alongside the red clay trail. Additional amenities such as foot-washing stations and shoe lockers were also provided.
Notably, an ochre storage box was installed, allowing residents to manage and maintain the red clay trail themselves.
To ensure the red clay trails are safe and pleasant, Mapo District removed hazardous trees and outdated facilities from the parks and improved the drainage system. The district also used paving materials that minimize ochre loss, making maintenance easier.
In addition, 4,910 trees such as spindle trees and 24,000 herbaceous plants such as liriope were planted in the surrounding areas so that residents can enjoy the diverse beauty of nature throughout the seasons.
Mayor Park Gangsu said, "It is known that simply walking barefoot on the red clay trail is effective for blood circulation and stress relief," adding, "I hope this will become a place in the city where people can feel and experience nature."
