U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has pressured Russia and Ukraine by stating that the United States will halt its mediation efforts unless the two countries reach a ceasefire agreement.
According to AFP on April 23, Vice President Vance, who is currently visiting India, told reporters, "The United States has made a clear proposal to Russia and Ukraine, and now it is time for them to accept it." He added, "If they do not, the United States will step aside."
He went on to say, "It is time to take one of the final steps to freeze the territorial boundaries at roughly the current situation," and explained, "This means that both Ukraine and Russia would have to give up some of the territory they currently hold."
U.S. President Donald Trump, during his presidential campaign, claimed he could end the war between Russia and Ukraine within 24 hours. After taking office, he began negotiations with Russia, but has not achieved any significant results.
