The prosecution has appealed the verdict after Moon Da-hye, daughter of former President Moon Jae-in, was sentenced to a fine in the first trial for charges of drunk driving and operating an illegal lodging business.
On April 23, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office submitted a notice of appeal to the first-instance court, which had sentenced Moon to a fine of 15 million won for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving) and the Public Health Control Act. The prosecution explained, "We filed the appeal on the grounds of an unjust sentence, taking into account the circumstances of the crime, the duration of the offenses, and the seriousness of the violations."
Moon is accused of driving a passenger car under the influence last October and colliding with a taxi while changing lanes in front of the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon, Yongsan District. At the time of the accident, Moon's blood alcohol concentration was 0.149%, exceeding the license revocation threshold of 0.08%.
She is also accused of using her officetel in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul, and a villa in Yangpyeong-dong for lodging business without proper registration. Additionally, she is suspected of operating a single-family house in Hyeopjae-ri, Hallim-eup, Jeju City, as an illegal lodging business over the past two years. Previously, at the first trial hearing on March 20, the prosecution had sought a one-year prison sentence for Moon.
