The Donald Trump administration is expected to demand that the United Kingdom lower tariffs on American automobiles to 2.5%.
According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on April 22 (local time), the United States has set a goal of reducing tariffs on American-made cars from the current 10% to 2.5% in upcoming tariff negotiations with the UK. The report also states that the Trump administration is likely to demand the relaxation of regulations on American agricultural products, as well as revisions to rules of origin. These moves are reportedly outlined in negotiation documents recently distributed by the Trump administration to stakeholders in the United States.
WSJ noted that even if the UK accepts the Trump administration's demands, it remains unclear whether the 10% reciprocal tariff imposed on the UK earlier this month will be withdrawn. The specific timing for the start of tariff negotiations between the United States and the UK has not yet been disclosed. White House deputy spokesperson Kusai Desai stated, "The final decision will be made by President Trump."
