Special Lectures to Deepen Understanding of Folk Culture
A Series of Humanities Sessions at the National Folk Museum of Korea Paju
On April 23, the National Folk Museum of Korea Paju announced that it will operate a special educational program for local residents titled "Storage Cultural Walk: Storage, the Door to Another World" on the last Wednesday of every month, designated as "Culture Day," through November.
This program was designed to broaden understanding of folk culture through specialized education on folk themes in the open storage facility. Through a variety of humanities lectures spanning art and daily life, the program offers a deeper and broader perspective on folk culture.
The program will be held six times from April to November. The sessions include: "Creative Reproduction of Korean Culture" by multi-artist Kang Woo-hyun in April; "Harmony of World Intangible Heritage, Gugak Tango" by Gugak Tango Performing Arts Group members Kim Kyuho and Lee Sunmin; "Spatial Aesthetics Discovered in Tradition" by space designer Yang Taeo; "Etiquette, Dignity, and Beauty Unfolded with Bojagi" by Hanbok designer and Bojagi artist Lee Hyojae; and "The Foundation of Life and Culture, Hansik" by travel writer and MBC radio host Noh Joonghoon.
The educational sessions will take place in the education room of the National Folk Museum of Korea Paju, located in Heyri Art Village. The Gugak Tango lecture will also feature a special performance by a tango master.
The program is free of charge, and participants can register on a first-come, first-served basis (50 people per session) through the National Folk Museum of Korea Paju website.
A representative from the National Folk Museum of Korea stated, "'Storage Cultural Walk' is an educational program designed to reinterpret the folk heritage stored in the museum from a modern perspective. We expect that the National Folk Museum of Korea Paju will contribute to its role as an open museum and a living storage facility for the local community," adding, "We hope it will serve as a driving force for the development of various cultural education programs that communicate with the local community."
