Kim Myungseon Inaugurated as Director of Bitgoeul Chonnam National University Hospital: "Communication and Cooperation"

Two-Year Term Until 2027

Bitgoeul Chonnam National University Hospital announced on April 23 that Professor Kim Myungseon (54) of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Chonnam National University Hospital has been appointed as the 7th hospital director.

The term of office is two years, until April 12, 2027. Kim Myungseon, the new hospital director, graduated from Chonnam National University College of Medicine and obtained both his master's and doctoral degrees from the Chonnam National University Graduate School. He completed his residency and became a board-certified specialist in orthopedic surgery at Chonnam National University Hospital. Since 2005, starting as a full-time instructor, he has contributed to medical advancement and the training of future professionals.

After joining Chonnam National University Hospital as a professor, Kim Myungseon completed overseas fellowships in shoulder and elbow surgery at the University of Zurich in Switzerland, the University of Washington in the United States, and the Cleveland Clinic in the United States.

Subsequently, Kim Myungseon has demonstrated world-class medical expertise and has been actively involved in international academic activities in the field of shoulder joint surgery. He has served as a council member, academic committee member, editorial board member, and translational research committee member of the Korean Shoulder and Elbow Society; auditor of the Korean Fracture Society; board member of the Korean Orthopedic Ultrasound Society; board member of the Korean Society for Surgery of the Hand; and academic committee member of the Korean Society for Musculoskeletal Stem Cell Regenerative Medicine.

Notably, he has published 97 research papers, registered four patents, and authored five books. He has also received the Chonnam National University Hospital Medical Research Academic Award, the Academic Encouragement Award at the Korean Orthopedic Association Autumn Academic Conference, the Excellence Award for the Cheonggang Medical Award from the Korean Shoulder and Elbow Society, and the Academic Award from the Korean Shoulder and Elbow Medical Society, thereby enhancing the reputation of orthopedic surgery.

Kim Myungseon, the new hospital director, stated, "Currently, Bitgoeul Hospital is in a period of preparing for the relocation of the functions of the Public Specialized Center for Rheumatoid and Degenerative Arthritis and for a new leap forward. I will do my utmost to ensure that the hospital achieves great results both internally and externally. I will listen more closely to the voices of patients and staff, and with leadership that values communication, cooperation, and embraces change, I will dedicate myself to the development of Bitgoeul Hospital."
