County Public Nursing Hospital Scheduled to Open in June
Muju County in North Jeolla Province announced on April 23 that it has been selected as a final recipient in the Ministry of Health and Welfare's '2025 Medical Underserved Area Artificial Kidney Center Support Project' competition.
This project aims to improve medical accessibility in areas underserved for hemodialysis treatment. The Muju County Public Nursing Hospital, scheduled to open in June 2025, will receive 150 million KRW in the first year (for six months), and 300 million KRW annually from the second year onward. The funding will be split equally between national and local government budgets (50% each).
Yoo Sangcheol, head of the Health Administration Team at Muju County Health Medical Center, stated, "Until now, there were no medical facilities in the region capable of providing hemodialysis, so 34 patients had to travel between hospitals in neighboring areas, causing significant inconvenience. We expect this project will greatly improve medical accessibility within the community."
The Muju County Public Nursing Hospital, located in Dangsan-ri, Muju-eup, is a facility with one basement level and three above-ground floors, housing 126 beds. It will operate an artificial kidney center, as well as a physical therapy room and a dementia-specialized ward.
The artificial kidney center will accommodate up to 12 patients and will be equipped with medical devices such as hemodialysis machines, as well as a dedicated staff of one doctor and two nurses when operations begin.
Meanwhile, the county currently provides a monthly transportation allowance of 100,000 KRW to residents with registered kidney disabilities who undergo hemodialysis at least twice a month.
