Gyeonggi-do will provide lifelong education vouchers worth 350,000 won per person to 14,000 low-income residents and registered persons with disabilities in the province.
The Gyeonggi-do Lifelong Education Promotion Agency announced on April 23 that it will begin accepting applications for the "2025 1st Gyeonggi-do Lifelong Education Voucher" starting April 24.
The lifelong education voucher program aims to bridge learning gaps caused by social and economic circumstances and to expand opportunities for lifelong learning for residents by providing 350,000 won in educational support per person. The Ministry of Education had managed the program since 2018, but starting this year, the responsibility for issuing the vouchers has shifted to metropolitan governments.
Gyeonggi-do, in cooperation with its 31 cities and counties, will select 14,000 low-income residents and registered persons with disabilities aged 19 or older, and will provide each recipient with points worth 350,000 won on an NH Nonghyup Card (Chaeum).
Voucher recipients can use the voucher to enroll in a wide range of lifelong education courses, including certification, entrepreneurship, language, humanities, and AI·digital fields, as well as to purchase related textbooks. The list of participating institutions, such as vocational competency development training centers, lifelong education facilities, and lifelong vocational education academies, can be found on the Gyeonggi-do Lifelong Education Voucher website (lllcard.kr/gyeonggi).
Applications will be accepted from April 24 to May 14. General vouchers can be applied for on the Gyeonggi-do Lifelong Education Voucher website, while vouchers for persons with disabilities can be applied for on the Bokji-geum24 website (gov.kr).
In June, Gyeonggi-do plans to expand eligibility and launch a second round of recruitment for youth regional vouchers (ages 19-39), senior vouchers (ages 65 and older), and digital vouchers (ages 30 and older).
Hong Seongdeok, Director of Lifelong Education at Gyeonggi-do, stated, "The importance of lifelong learning is growing as knowledge and technology change rapidly," and added, "We will continue to expand learning opportunities for residents to help them develop their capabilities and achieve self-realization."
