Hwaseong City to Subsidize Solar Panel Installation Costs for 102 Detached Houses

Up to 2,934,000 Won Subsidy Per Household
for 3kW Solar Panel Installation

Hwaseong City in Gyeonggi Province announced on April 23 that it will implement a solar panel installation support project for detached houses within the city to promote the spread of renewable energy.

This project is being carried out in conjunction with Gyeonggi Province’s residential solar panel program. If a homeowner installs a 3kW solar power system, part of the cost will be subsidized by both the province and the city.

The support is available for 102 households, with a maximum subsidy of 2,934,000 won per house. The remaining 1,997,000 won must be covered by the homeowner.

Applicants who wish to participate can sign a preliminary contract with a construction company through the 'Gyeonggi Province Residential Solar Panel Support System' from May 7 to May 23, and then submit their official application for the project between May 26 and May 30.

Previously, from 2011 to last year, the city supplied solar power systems with a total capacity of 13,053kW to 2,750 households. This capacity can generate 16,675,207kWh of electricity annually and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 7,661 tons per year.

Park Taeyeol, head of Hwaseong City’s Renewable Energy Division, stated, "We will do our best to continue promoting renewable energy supply projects to achieve carbon neutrality."

Meanwhile, this project is separate from the 'Hwaseong City Renewable Energy Housing Support Project,' which is being promoted in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Energy Agency and provides installation subsidies for 134 detached houses. The 'Renewable Energy Housing Support Project' supports the installation of renewable energy systems such as solar, solar thermal, geothermal, and fuel cells in both detached and multi-family houses. Applications for the project can be submitted through the 'Korea Energy Agency Green Home' platform.
