Ahn Cheolsoo Urges People Power Party Candidates: "Let's Apologize for Yoon's Impeachment"

"Shorten Presidential Term to Three Years, Hold Constitutional Referendum"
"Balanced Regional Development Through Metropolitan Administrative Integration"

On April 23, Representative Ahn Cheolsoo, a presidential primary candidate for the People Power Party, proposed a public apology for the impeachment of former President Yoon Sukyeol and a constitutional amendment to shorten the presidential term to fellow presidential primary candidates Kim Moonsoo, Han Donghoon, and Hong Junpyo ahead of the June 3 presidential election.

On his social networking service (SNS) account that day, Representative Ahn urged the People Power Party's presidential primary candidates, stating, "No one is completely free from responsibility for the impeachment of former President Yoon," and called for "a sincere apology to the public."

He further emphasized, "The impeachment of former President Yoon is a painful chapter in the history of the entire conservative camp," and added, "Responsible politicians must not turn a blind eye to past mistakes but must face them head-on."

Regarding constitutional amendment, he argued, "Whoever is elected president should shorten the presidential term to three years and hold a constitutional referendum simultaneously with next year's local elections," stressing, "For politics to change, the system must change."

Representative Ahn also stated, "The issues of low birth rate and aging population cannot be resolved without balanced regional development and administrative integration at the metropolitan level," and urged, "Whoever is elected president should make 'metropolitan administrative integration' the highest national priority."

Additionally, he proposed a sweeping reform of the National Election Commission, which has lost public trust due to poor management and personnel decisions, and the abolition of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, which has failed to fulfill its role due to political bias and incompetence.

Meanwhile, Representative Ahn passed the first cutoff round of the People Power Party's presidential primary and secured a spot in the final four. There has been commentary that his advancement to the second round, surpassing candidate Na Kyungwon, was an unexpected outcome.
