The "Family Art Camping Peace Village Development Project" is a plan to utilize the tourism resources of Tongildongsan to create a camping site that combines peace, art, and culture, and to use it as infrastructure for a stay-type tourist destination. At the briefing session, Paju City Deputy Mayor Choi Byunggap, the Director of the Department of Culture and Education, heads of relevant departments, experts, and representatives from the service provider attended. The session included a final report on key issues for project implementation, followed by in-depth discussions on major topics.
City officials were also highly proactive in asking questions and sharing opinions regarding the results of the service report presented that day. The main opinions shared by city officials at the briefing focused on: ▲ designing spaces where families can spend time together, ▲ reviewing the circulation and facility management of the camping site, and ▲ strengthening the connection between the surrounding commercial areas and major tourist attractions within Tongildongsan.
Last year alone, Paju City attracted more than 7 million tourists, but due to a lack of stay-type tourism infrastructure, most visits were limited to day trips, resulting in only a minimal effect on revitalizing the local economy through tourism. In this context, the "Family Art Camping Peace Village Development Project" is expected to play a significant role in revitalizing the local economy as a key strategy for Paju's future as a tourism city, by transforming the Tongildongsan Tourism Special Zone into a stay-type tourist destination in connection with nearby attractions such as Heyri Art Village.
Deputy Mayor Choi Byunggap stated, "We will push ahead with the Family Art Camping Peace Village Development Project without delay, maximize synergy effects through linkage with adjacent tourism resources, and create a place that people want to revisit, thereby making a leap forward as a stay-type tourism city."
Meanwhile, the Family Art Camping Peace Village Development Project was selected as a new project for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's 2024 Special Situation Area Development in August 2023. With a total project budget of 8 billion won, including 6.4 billion won from the national government and 1.6 billion won from the city, Paju City began basic and detailed design services in April 2024, with construction scheduled to begin in June 2025 and be completed in June 2026.
