Sports and Experiential Activities
at Gwangju Youth Training Center on the 25th
Gwangju City and the Gwangju Out-of-School Youth Support Center will hold the 'School-Outside Youth Sports Competition' at the Gwangju Youth Training Center on April 25, marking the event's return after six years.
This event is a sports gathering where out-of-school youth can interact and build camaraderie with their peers through enjoyable sports activities and experiential programs. It was suspended due to COVID-19 and is being resumed after six years.
The sports competition will begin with a performance by each participating institution, followed by an opening ceremony, the appointment ceremony for the Dream Dream Youth Group, a speech by a youth representative outlining their aspirations, and an oath by the athletes' representative.
The sports events will include team competitions such as ball rolling, wave riding, sky-high shooting, tug-of-war, and mission running, as well as various participatory programs like pipe relay, archery, bottle game, and solving math problems.
Additionally, a variety of experiential booths will be operated to attract the interest of youth, including booths hosted by related organizations, a policy demand survey booth for the Dream Dream Youth Group, and a snack bar operated with coins.
In particular, the sports competition will aim to reduce the use of disposable products, utilize shared resources, and minimize the use of banners as part of efforts to address the climate crisis in daily life.
Yoon Mikyung, head of the Department of Children and Youth, said, "I hope this will be a day when out-of-school youth can run and play freely, cooperate with one another, and experience a sense of achievement," adding, "We will continue to operate programs that empower youth to grow independently in the future."
