Children and Citizens Offered Ecological Experiences
Promoting Wetland Conservation and Biodiversity Awareness
Gwangju Bukgu District will operate community-based ecological programs to promote the ecological value of the Pyeongdume Wetland, which has been designated as a Ramsar Wetland.
On April 23, Bukgu announced the launch of the "Children's Ramsar Wetland Exploration Team" and the "Citizen Science Ecology School" for children and local residents to experience the importance of wetland conservation. These programs are designed to raise awareness of environmental conservation through activities that involve direct observation and documentation of nature.
The "Children's Ramsar Wetland Exploration Team" will involve approximately 280 local preschoolers, who will participate in wetland organism observation and hands-on activities. The goal is to naturally convey the importance of ecosystem conservation to children.
The "Citizen Science Ecology School," intended for residents interested in the environment, will be held twice: on April 26 and May 28. Participants will explore wetland organisms with experts and discuss strategies for biodiversity conservation. Bukgu plans to involve local environmental teachers in the second session, aiming to expand the program's impact into school education.
District Mayor Moon In stated, "We will strive to widely promote the ecological value of the Pyeongdume Wetland and help residents appreciate the importance of nature."
