A Variety of Programs Including Lectures, Field Trips, and Concerts

Walking along the seowon (Confucian academies) of Gwangju, one encounters traces of the scholar Gobong Gi Daeseung. Gwangsan District in Gwangju is hosting the 'Gwangsan Seowon Academy,' a program themed around humanities in everyday life, offering an opportunity to explore the region's history and Confucian humanities.

According to Gwangsan District on April 23, this academy is being held in collaboration with Honam Hakdang of Chonnam National University. It was planned to reflect on the philosophy of Gobong Gi Daeseung and reinterpret the traditions of seowon in a contemporary context. A variety of programs are prepared, including lectures, study gatherings, concerts, and visits to historical sites.

The 'Seowon Academy' is structured as a time to delve into the classics with authors specializing in Honam Confucianism, encouraging participants to reflect on the depth of everyday life. Lectures will be held every Wednesday starting from the 30th, featuring speakers such as Park Chansung, professor at Hanyang University, and Kim Kyungho, professor at Chonnam National University. The following 'Seowon Study Gathering' will involve reading and discussing the Book of Changes together, reminiscent of the study groups of old seowon.

On the 31st of next month, a tour will take place, following in the footsteps of Gobong Gi Daeseung to historical sites such as Onamjae and Nakamteo. Participants will walk along the path of scholars, experiencing the spirit of Joseon Confucianism firsthand.

A stage where tradition and modernity meet will also be presented. The 'Bingwoldang Concert' will feature creative songs based on Gobong Gi Daeseung's poetry, as well as performances of vocal music, ajaeng, and cello.

An official from the district said, "We hope this academy will provide an opportunity for people to experience the breath of local humanities in their daily lives."
