Rebound in US Stocks Lifts KOSPI Back Above 2,500

The domestic stock market is showing strength in early trading. This is interpreted as investor sentiment being buoyed by the broad rebound in the New York stock market the previous day.


As of 9:30 a.m. on April 23, the KOSPI was trading at 2,512.78, up 24.90 points (1.0%) from the previous day. The index opened at 2,520.56, a rise of 33.92 points (1.36%). Individual investors and foreign investors recorded net sales of 48.3 billion won and 70.9 billion won, respectively, while institutional investors alone recorded net purchases of 114.9 billion won.

Most of the large-cap stocks were strong. Samsung Electronics (1.27%), SK Hynix (2.76%), LG Energy Solution (3.31%), Hyundai Motor (1.29%), Hanwha Aerospace (0.72%), Celltrion (0.19%), Kia (1.50%), KB Financial Group (0.84%), and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (0.83%) all rose. Samsung Biologics declined by 2.14%.


By industry, electrical equipment (3.50%), electrical products (2.93%), display panels (2.11%), semiconductors (1.63%), electronic equipment (1.53%), chemicals (1.51%), energy (1.44%), shipbuilding (1.39%), automobiles (1.20%), securities (1.01%), and telecommunications equipment (0.95%) sectors all showed gains. In contrast, other distribution (-1.04%), pharmaceuticals (-0.68%), non-ferrous metals (-0.58%), education (-0.48%), and game software (-0.39%) sectors declined.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ was trading at 721.55, up 5.41 points (0.76%). The index opened at 724.33, a jump of 8.21 points (1.15%). Individual and institutional investors recorded net purchases of 43.8 billion won and 1 billion won, respectively, while foreign investors recorded net sales of 35.7 billion won.


Top KOSDAQ stocks showed a somewhat mixed trend. EcoPro BM (2.01%), EcoPro (2.01%), Peptron (6.81%), Rainbow Robotics (1.77%), LIG ChemBio (0.89%), and Alteogen (0.39%) rose, but Hugel (-0.71%), Classys (-0.39%), Kolon TissueGene (-0.75%), and PharmaResearch (-0.70%) declined.
