DL E&C: "Aiming Beyond a Bridge to Become a Regional Landmark"... Anticipating Tourism and Industrial Synergy
DL E&C announced on April 23 that it has begun the main construction phase of the so-called 'Harmony Bridge' connecting Hwaseong SongSan Green City and Ansan SiHwa Multi Techno Valley (MTV) by installing the first deck segment. The installation of the deck marks the completion of the bridge's foundation work and the commencement of the main structure, representing a significant milestone in the overall project.
The SongSan Green City to SiHwa MTV connecting road broke ground in February 2023 and is currently about 37% complete. Provided by DL E&C.
This project is a core section of the SongSan to SiHwa MTV connecting road, commissioned by Korea Water Resources Corporation. The Harmony Bridge, which will span approximately 1.17 kilometers out of the total 2.83 kilometers, is designed as a four-lane cable-stayed bridge over the sea. DL E&C is responsible for construction, which began in February 2023 and is currently about 37% complete. Completion is scheduled for May 2027.
DL E&C is also working to make Harmony Bridge more than just a passageway, aiming to establish it as a 'landmark' for the region. The main tower will reach 85 meters in height, equivalent to a 30-story apartment building. The bridge will feature the unique curves of a cable-stayed structure, a pedestrian walkway offering 360-degree views of Lake SiHwa, nighttime landscape lighting, and span structures that emphasize aesthetic design.
Once Harmony Bridge opens, travel time between SongSan Green City and SiHwa MTV will be reduced to five minutes. This is up to 40 minutes faster than the current detour via the existing SiHwa Bridge. With the Hwaseong dinosaur egg fossil site and SiHwa MTV Turtle Island located at either end of the connecting road, demand for tourism and leisure activities is also expected to grow rapidly.
Meanwhile, since opening the Yi Sun-sin Bridge in 2013 and becoming the world's sixth nation to achieve independent suspension bridge technology, DL E&C has continued to demonstrate unrivaled expertise in marine bridge construction. The company has also expanded its presence in the international marine bridge market with projects such as the Sungai Bridge in Brunei and the Canakkale Bridge in T?rkiye.
A DL E&C representative stated, "The SongSan Green City to SiHwa MTV connecting road is more than just a bridge construction project; it strengthens regional connectivity and expands the foundation for both industry and daily life. We are committed to doing our utmost with a sense of mission to build a landmark bridge."
