Korean Sport & Olympic Committee Amends Articles to Completely Block Third Consecutive Term for Executives, Including President

Exception Clause for Consecutive Executive Terms Deleted
Yoo Seungmin Fulfills Campaign Promise

Yoo Seungmin, president of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, has amended the organization's articles of association to completely block the possibility of a third consecutive term for executives, including the president.

On the afternoon of the 22nd, the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee held its 2nd board meeting in the main conference room on the 13th floor of the Olympic Hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul, and approved the amendment to the articles of association.

As a result, the provision in Article 29, Paragraph 1 of the articles of association, which previously allowed an exception to the term limit for executives who passed the review of the Sports Fairness Committee?permitting a third consecutive term (more than two reappointments)?was deleted.

Previously, former president Lee Keeheung ran for a third term after completing his second term, having received approval from the Sports Fairness Committee, which sparked controversy over "self-approval." However, he was defeated by the current president, Yoo Seungmin. During his candidacy, Yoo had already stated that he would not seek a third consecutive term, even if elected.

Before the board meeting, Yoo Seungmin announced in his opening remarks, "With the belief that reform must begin with ourselves, I will proactively address the regulation on executive reappointments."

Meanwhile, the board meeting included reports on the following: the appointment of directors for the 42nd executive board, the operation and innovation plan of the Sports Reform Committee, the progress of the renewal of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee emblem, and issues regarding the organization's own budget.

At the meeting, the board also amended the regulations on the establishment and operation of advisory committees to improve efficiency, reducing the number of committees from 31 to 23. In addition, chairpersons were appointed for 21 committees, including the Korea University Sports Committee and the School Sports Committee.

Furthermore, the board rejected the membership applications of the Korea Sport Fishing Central Association, the Korea Sambo Federation, and the Korea Cricket Federation as recognized organizations. It also discussed, but postponed a decision on, the proposal to downgrade the Korea Kickboxing Association, currently an associate member, to a recognized organization.

Additionally, the board reviewed changes to this year's internal budget, taking into account the worsening shortage of the organization's own funds and a decrease in expected revenue compared to the budget plan.
