Vote Percentages and Rankings Remain Confidential
Second Round of Primary to Be Held on the 23rd with Media Day
Representative Ahn Cheolsoo of the People Power Party stated on April 22, after advancing to the second round of the party's primary, "The fact that I have been placed in the top four reflects the public's expectations and hopes for a decisive victory in this presidential election," vowing that he would win without fail.
Immediately after the announcement of the results of the first cutoff round in the afternoon, Representative Ahn expressed his gratitude on Facebook, saying, "Thank you to the people," and conveyed these sentiments.
Representative Ahn said, "I will deeply reflect on the will of the people, gather even broader public support, and ensure victory," emphasizing, "We can win. And we will win without fail."
Earlier, Hwang Woo-yeo, chairman of the People Power Party's Nomination Management Committee, announced at the National Assembly at around 5:45 p.m. that day that Kim Moonsoo, former Minister of Employment and Labor; Representative Ahn; Han Donghoon, former party leader; and Hong, former mayor of Daegu (listed in alphabetical order) had been selected as the four candidates advancing to the second round of the primary.
According to various opinion polls released just before the first round of the primary, former Minister Kim, former leader Han, and former Mayor Hong formed the leading trio, while Representative Ahn and Representative Na Kyungwon were competing for the fourth spot in the top four.
Representative Ahn has consistently opposed the candidacies of those who were against impeachment and those from legal backgrounds, arguing that, as a physician, scientist, entrepreneur, and professor, he himself should become president.
He has also announced pledges including the introduction of a responsible prime minister system, constitutional reform for decentralization, the fostering of five strategic industries?artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, future mobility, bio, and K-service industries?and raising the proportion of research and development (R&D) investment to 5% of gross domestic product (GDP).
