Donghoon Choi first gained attention by becoming the flyweight champion in the domestic organization Double G FC, and then entered the UFC after winning the "Road to UFC" Season 3 tournament.
As an emerging next-generation mixed martial arts star, Donghoon Choi has a deep connection with Pohang.
During his school years, he was an elite judo athlete. He first became acquainted with Pohang while serving as a Navy non-commissioned officer. After being captivated by the UFC by chance, he began his professional mixed martial arts career with "Pohang Team MAD."
Since then, he has drawn the attention of mixed martial arts fans worldwide with an impressive undefeated record of 9 wins in 9 matches, demonstrating overwhelming growth. Despite this, he has continued to train in Pohang without leaving the city, showing his affection and pride for Pohang.
At the appointment ceremony, Choi said, "I am who I am today because I started training and achieved good results in Pohang. It is an honor to represent Pohang, which is like my spiritual hometown, and I will do my best to promote the value of Pohang far and wide."
Mayor Kangdeok Lee stated, "Donghoon Choi's spirit of challenge resembles the sportsmanship that Pohang City aspires to. I expect that he will play an important role in Pohang's journey to become a global sports city, beyond just Korea."
For the next two years, Choi will participate in Pohang City's sports events and campaigns, and when competing in the UFC, he will represent and promote the city of Pohang.
This appointment as promotional ambassador was made possible by the suggestion of Pohang City Council's Chairman of the Autonomy and Administration Committee, Jeong Wonsuk. At the event, Donghoon Choi presented Mayor Kangdeok Lee with a pair of gloves bearing his autograph and said, "Next time, I will definitely return with the championship belt," receiving enthusiastic support and applause.
