Nearly Triple the Amount Compared to Trump’s First Term
Hyundai Motor Donates $1 Million, Hanwha Defense $500,000
Total Donations Reach $239 Million, Setting a New Record
It has been confirmed that major South Korean companies made large donations to the inauguration ceremony of U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this year.
According to documents released by the U.S. Federal Election Commission (FEC) on April 22, Samsung Electronics America donated $315,000 (approximately 450 million won) to President Trump's inauguration ceremony on January 20.
Previously, Samsung Electronics had also donated $100,000 (approximately 143 million won) to Trump's first inauguration in 2017. At that time, Samsung Electronics was the only South Korean company to make a donation. For this second inauguration, the donation amount increased by more than three times.
Hyundai Motor America also contributed $1 million (approximately 1.426 billion won) as a donation on January 6. Hanwha Defense and Hanwha Q Cells each donated $500,000 (approximately 713 million won).
The series of donations by these South Korean companies is interpreted as an effort to broaden their connections with the new Trump administration and to secure a foothold in the increasingly uncertain U.S. market, which has faced greater unpredictability due to tariffs and other factors.
Meanwhile, it was revealed that President Trump received a total of $239 million (approximately 340 billion won) in donations for his inauguration ceremony. This amount is more than twice that of his first inauguration ($107 million) and marks the largest sum ever raised for a U.S. presidential inauguration.
