The city of Daejeon has proposed that 12 key initiatives?including the establishment of a future-oriented administrative system modeled on administrative integration with South Chungcheong Province and the relocation of the Daejeon Correctional Institution?be adopted as strategic national policy tasks by the next administration.
Daejeon City announced that, ahead of the 21st presidential election to be held in June 2025, it has identified 42 development initiatives across four major sectors to lead the Republic of Korea's future advancement.
With the vision of "G2 Nation Korea, Leading City Daejeon," the development initiatives are categorized into four strategic sectors: Science Capital, World-Class Economic City, Chungcheong Regional Hub City, and Premier Landmark City. The total amount of national funding requested for these initiatives amounts to approximately 31.1244 trillion won.
The 12 initiatives proposed for inclusion in the next administration's national agenda are: the establishment of a future-oriented administrative system modeled on the administrative integration of Daejeon and South Chungcheong Province; undergrounding the Honam Expressway and constructing a wide-area road network in the Chungcheong region; building the Nara Sarang Park; normalizing development in the southwestern area, including the relocation of Daejeon Correctional Institution; promoting the spatial re-creation of Jaundae; the second phase relocation of public institutions to Daejeon Innovation City; establishing the Daedeok Quantum Cluster; founding the Semiconductor Comprehensive Research Institute; integrated development and construction of metropolitan railways in urban rail sections; creating the Daejeon Urban Convergence Special Zone; advancing the Daedeok Special Zone Re-Creation Project; and establishing the Mega Sandbox Daejeon.
The city plans to deliver these proposed initiatives to each political party and presidential campaign, making every effort to have them reflected in the candidates' pledges. At the same time, Daejeon will work to enhance the completeness of each initiative and supplement policy alternatives until the final candidates are selected and before the election.
Mayor Lee Jangwoo stated, "At a time when the new government will soon take office and everyone must cooperate for the stability of the nation and its people, we have selected 42 development initiatives for the shared prosperity of the Chungcheong region and for Daejeon's leap forward as a world-class economic city." He emphasized, "As a science capital, a world-class economic city, and the regional hub of Chungcheong, Daejeon is ready to lead Korea's new leap forward."
