The National Police Agency announced on April 23 that it will co-host an academic conference on dating violence with Monash University, the University of Melbourne, and the Australian Catholic University.
This academic conference has been organized to review the current responses, legal systems, and key issues in both Korea and Australia, with the aim of establishing effective policies for the prevention, response, and protection of victims of dating violence.
Cho Jueun, Director of the Women’s Safety and School Violence Countermeasures Division at the National Police Agency, will serve as the chair. Yeo Gaemyeong, Head of the Women’s Safety Planning Division at the National Police Agency, will present on "The Current Status and Improvement Measures of Police Responses to Dating Violence." Han Minkyung, a professor at the Korean National Police University, will present an "Analysis of Patterns in the Recurrence of Dating Violence."
Cho Hyein, a professor at Monash University, will give a presentation titled "National Response to Gender-Based Violence: Australian Policies and Social Discourse." Mary, a professor at the University of Melbourne, will discuss "Australian Legislative Examples of Coercive Control and Their Implications."
Lee Hoyoung, Acting Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, stated, "Dating violence is a type of relationship crime, and it is crucial to quickly detect early warning signs to prevent escalation into serious crimes. Proactive responses are necessary." He emphasized, "There is an urgent need for a societal effort to address the reality that police officers in the field are unable to respond appropriately due to legislative gaps."
