Discussion on Expanding High-Level Exchanges and Combined Training
Acting Army Chief of Staff Ko Changjun (General) and U.S. Army Pacific Commander Ronald Clark held a video conference to discuss close cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Army, Acting Chief Ko held a video conference with Commander Clark on April 22, 2025. This meeting was held to reaffirm the strength of the ROK-U.S. alliance at the Army level and to strengthen exchanges and security cooperation between the two armies.
Both sides agreed that the ROK-U.S. alliance has grown into a key pillar of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region. They also emphasized the importance of multilateral security cooperation in the region for peace, stability, and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific, including deterring provocations from North Korea.
In particular, Acting Chief Ko and Commander Clark exchanged views on promoting high-level exchanges such as the ROK-U.S. Army Conference and Army Chief of Staff talks, as well as on ways to qualitatively and quantitatively expand ROK-U.S. combined training, in order to maintain a strong combined defense posture.
Acting Chief Ko said, "I would like to express my gratitude for the support provided by U.S. military forces during the recent wildfire suppression in Korea," and added, "As a key partner in ROK-U.S. Army exchanges and the central player in deploying U.S. Army reinforcement forces in the event of a contingency on the Korean Peninsula, we will continue to work closely with the U.S. Army Pacific Command."
Commander Clark also highly praised the role of the ROK Army in promoting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region, including the Korean Peninsula, during the video conference. He emphasized the importance of activating ROK-U.S. combined training, high-level exchanges for multilateral security cooperation in the region, and multinational combined training.
