A Historical Tale Embracing the Scholar's Spirit
"Musical Geumseongdaegun" at Kkachi Hall, Yeongju Culture and Arts Center, June 25-26
The city of Yeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, announced that the 2025 "Musical Geumseongdaegun" will be performed three times at the Kkachi Hall of the Yeongju Culture and Arts Center: at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on the 25th, and at 3 p.m. on the 26th.
Hosted by North Gyeongsang Province and Yeongju City and organized by the Yeongju Sobaek Arts Troupe (headed by Kim Jindong), the 2025 "Musical Geumseongdaegun" is a production that brings to the stage the upright spirit and steadfast resolve of a scholar, based on the life of Geumseongdaegun, who remained true to his principles and did not yield to power. In particular, the musical resonates even more deeply with audiences today by connecting the spirit of Geumseongdaegun to the historical significance of Yeongju, which is known as the center of Confucianism in the Joseon Dynasty and the birthplace of scholar culture.
Having been recognized for its artistic merit over the past two years, "Musical Geumseongdaegun" returns this year with an even more polished production. Veteran creators, including executive producer Kim Jindong, director Choi Juhwan, playwright Ahn Heecheol, and composer Yeo Seungyong, have further enhanced the stage direction. The cast, led by Park Jihwan in the role of Geumseongdaegun, is expected to captivate the audience with their profound acting and singing.
Kim Jindong, head of the troupe, stated, "It is very meaningful to be able to present a story imbued with the identity and spirit of Yeongju, brought to life on stage by local artists," adding, "I hope this will be a time for many citizens to share empathy and inspiration together."
