The Chungnam Office of Education announced that it has designated the five-day period from April 22 to April 25, in celebration of Earth Day, as "Carbon Neutral Practice Week" and will operate a variety of programs during this time.
This Carbon Neutral Practice Week, held under the theme "Green Footprints for the Earth," will feature a range of independently organized programs related to Earth Day at schools throughout the province. In particular, the focus will be on activities that students can participate in and put into practice themselves.
In addition, to promote the spread of carbon neutrality practices, the Office of Education has been distributing personal towels and sets of spoons and chopsticks at the main entrance since April 22. It is also enforcing a ban on bringing disposable items and plastics into the main building, and is conducting activities such as "plogging," which combines exercise with environmental cleanup.
At each school, a variety of programs tailored to their circumstances are being implemented, including: the "Carbon Neutral School 3·6·5 Campaign"; "10-Minute Lights Out at 8 PM" in collaboration with families; practicing waste separation with school environmental clubs; and campaigns to reduce the use of disposable items and plastics.
Superintendent Kim Jicheol stated, "Earth Day is a day when people around the world come together to protect the global environment," adding, "I hope everyone will think about and participate in protecting the Earth's environment in their daily lives."
