Bucheon City Records 52 "Good" Air Quality Days During 6th Seasonal Management System, Highest Ever

Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on April 22 that the number of days rated as "Good" (ultrafine dust concentration of 15μg/m³ or less) totaled 52 during the 6th Seasonal Management System period, which was implemented from December last year until the end of last month.

This figure is 14 days higher than the 38 days recorded during the 5th Seasonal Management System period, marking the highest number of "Good" days since the system's implementation. During the same period, the number of days rated as "Moderate" (16-35μg/m³) was 43, a decrease of 15 days compared to the previous year, while the number of "Bad" (36μg/m³ or higher) days remained unchanged at 26.

The average ultrafine dust concentration during the Seasonal Management System period was maintained at 24μg/m³, the same as the previous year. However, the increase in "Good" days indicates that citizens experienced clear and pleasant weather more frequently.

During the 6th Seasonal Management System period, the city promoted fine dust reduction policies focused on a total of 17 detailed tasks across six areas: public sector leading reduction, transportation, industry, daily life, health protection for vulnerable groups, and information provision. During this period, a total of five fine dust emergency reduction measures (including preliminary reduction measures) were implemented.

Key policies included voluntary reduction at two public incineration facilities, winter energy-saving practices at 87 public institutions, restrictions on the operation of grade 5 emission vehicles and enhanced road cleaning, inspections of fugitive dust and indoor air quality at 185 construction sites and 87 multi-use facilities, and the distribution of low-NOx boilers for households in low-income brackets.

A Bucheon City official stated, "Through the Seasonal Management System, we were able to bring about tangible changes in fine dust reduction," adding, "We will continue to implement effective reduction measures in daily life going forward."
