The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Small and Medium Business Corporation announced on April 22 that they will officially launch the "Global Talent Employment Leading University" program, aimed at cultivating foreign students as customized professionals for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups.

The "Global Talent Employment Leading University" program is designed to strengthen the domestic employment capabilities of foreign students and to support SMEs and startups in addressing workforce shortages by providing practical, hands-on education and linking students with field projects.

The universities selected for this program are: Gyeonggi College of Science and Technology, Kyungsung University, Changwon National University, Daejeon Institute of Science and Technology, Tongmyong University, Seojeong College, Sunmoon University, Shin Ansan University, Woosong University, and Chungbuk Health and Science University, for a total of ten institutions.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Small and Medium Business Corporation plan to provide up to 150 million KRW to each university, supporting a variety of programs to enhance the employment capabilities of foreign students and facilitate their smooth recruitment by domestic SMEs and startups.

The ten selected universities will recruit graduating foreign students who wish to work at SMEs and startups, as well as graduates holding job-seeker visas. They will operate a two-stage program consisting of more than 200 hours in total: the first stage focuses on strengthening employment capabilities, including understanding SMEs and startups and Korean language education; the second stage provides practical employment preparation through internships, field training, or industry-academic cooperation projects.

The Small and Medium Business Corporation plans to actively promote job matching between trained foreign students and domestic SMEs and startups, and to continuously expand the program to help overcome workforce shortages in the sector.

Cho Hankyo, Director of Human Resources Development at the Small and Medium Business Corporation, stated, "We will ensure the successful implementation of this program so that foreign talent can be supplied to fill vacant positions at our SMEs and startups, which are currently facing workforce shortages, in a timely and appropriate manner."
